About Steaphan Wallace

A materials engineer experienced in research with new materials and nanotechnology for electronics. I am endlessly curious and always wanting to make new things, do new challenges, and go new places. Educated in materials science, I have a broad knowledge of materials processing, characterization, and device applications, and have worked with 2D materials, thin films, and semiconducting nanostructures. My masters research focused on exploring new 2D germanium materials, and my doctoral research at a national laboratory focused on developing new processes of synthesizing nanostructured graphene and metal nanoparticles on silicon nanowires. Whether in the laboratory or on my time off, I have a strong drive to explore and be unique. My passion at home is cooking, I think of the kitchen as my home laboratory and cook something different every day. I have moved often in my life and when looking for graduate schools I decided to study in Japan for 5 years because it would be challenging and give me new perspectives. In Japan I became skilled at working with cross-disciplinary topics and international group work. I also gained Japanese language skills and built a strong connection with Japan.
