About Stefan Briffa

With more than 25 years of experience in various regulatory and compliance roles, I am a seasoned professional with a passion for ensuring high standards of governance, risk management, and ethical conduct in the mobility and transportation industry. I am the Company Secretary for MAS P.L.C, a property investor and operator listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, as well as a number of subsidiaries. As the Company Secretary and Head of Compliance and Risk Management at Debono Group, I oversaw the governance, compliance and risk functions of one of the leading mobility solutions providers in Malta, with a diversified portfolio of car dealerships, car rentals, car sharing, and mobility services. In addition to my leadership role, I also served as the Data Protection Officer for several companies o the Debono Group, ensuring compliance with the GDPR and other data protection laws and regulations. I was also a board member of two car-sharing companies, GoToMalta and Car Sharing Services Malta. For close to 24 years, I served as head of regulatory and competition affairs at GO p.l.c, Malta's major communications group which is listed on the Malta Stock Exchange. I am a Fellow of the International Compliance Association, and hold a professional postgraduate diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance. I also have a strong academic background in European Studies, EC Competition Law, and Anti-Money Laundering. My core competencies include corporate governance, anti-money laundering, compliance management, data protection, electronic communications regulation, audiovisual media regulation, and competition investigations with a particular emphasis on abuse of dominance.
