Background

About Stefan Custers

At the University of Maastricht I studied the molecular mechanisms of human physiology both in disease and in health. Here I developed a strong interest for cancer and sought to gain further knowledge in drug development based on molecular research, preferable in cancer. For this purpose I moved to Utrecht and started the master programm Drug Innovation. During this programm I followed courses on drug development and regulation, Drug discovery, Advanced Pharmacology and Understanding Drugs. After these courses I performed my major research project at the Coffer group (UMC/Hubrecht Institute) where I researched the effects of the SOX4 transcription factor on mammary tumor progression. Hereafter I worked on a novel MMP14 hemopexin inhibitory lead compounds for solid tumor treatment at Somantix BV. At the moment I am employed as a research technician at Sapreme Technologies. In the mean time I am exploring PhD positions to further increase my expertise in the benefit of patients.
