About Stefan Holmlid

I have a passion for design. For the power of change that design brings. For the visions that design establish, be they utopias or dystopias. For the expressive power design give to everyone that engages themselves in a process of design. My research primarily focus on design for service, from activities over systems to policy. For the last ffiteen years I have been investigating the meeting between service and design. My work is founded in situated and distributed cognition, mediated action in complex adaptive systems, and contemporary developments in design theory. I have an overall interest in developing knowledge in the meeting between design practices, innovation practices, policy practices and professional practices, in the public realm as well as with industrial corporations. When it comes to education, there has been an increase in the amount of design courses and programmes in the last few years. I am heading the MSc in Design, and is actively involved in programmes such as Design and Product Development, Urban Planning and Cognitive Science. Finally, I work with interactive art, that is, computer based art where the interaction in itself is part of the aesthetic and the experience of the art work.
