About Stefanie Proulx

Stefanie Proulx is a Brooklyn-based flutist, teacher, and administrator specializing in contemporary and experimental music. In collaboration with dozens of composers and musicians she has premiered a high number of new chamber and solo works in venues across the United States, as well as Italy and Mexico. She is highly experienced in the areas of extended techniques and improvisation and enjoys utilizing electronics in her performances, particularly on alto and bass flutes. Stefanie serves as Communications & Social Media Manager - as well as flutist - of InfraSound, a NYC-based collective of artists and musicians focused on prioritizing collaboration, community, and accessibility in the world of experimental music. InfraSound has recently been named recipient of both Chamber Music America’s 2021 Ensemble Forward Grant, and the 2021 Dwight & Ursula Mamlok Junior Prize. In addition to performing, Stefanie is also passionate about providing music education to the greater community. She is a founding member of the Festival de Música Nueva, Ensenada (located in Ensenada, B.C, Mexico) and helped to organize and teach in both the 2018 and 2019 festivals. Previously, she also served as a teaching artist with Forbes Music Company, providing lessons on flute, clarinet and saxophone. She has additionally held a private studio for the past five years both virtually and in person throughout the NYC area. On top of her music career, Stefanie also works full time as head of Facilities at Chashama, and also runs an Etsy shop where she sells handmade jewelry. Stefanie holds a Master’s in Contemporary music from the Manhattan School of Music, a Master’s from SUNY Purchase, and a Bachelor's in both Music and Sociology from the University of Delaware
