About Stefano Bonetti

I am a Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the Ca'​ Foscari University of Venice. I have 15+ years of experience in research and teaching in the fields of materials physics, spintronics, quantum mechanics, ultrafast lasers and quantum optics. Politecnico di Milano (Italy)-> KTH - Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden)-> Stanford University (USA)-> Stockholm University (Sweden)-> Ca' Foscari University of Venice (Italy) has been the 20+ years long journey that brought me to be the lead Founder and Chief Technology Officer of RARA Factory, a spin off company of Ca' Foscari where we developed a proprietary method with the goal of replacing critical raw materials with compounds made of sustainable and abundant elements with similar or superior properties. My research focuses on using lasers to understand and manipulate the properties of quantum materials, such as magnetism, ferroelectricity, superconductivity, and topological phases. I have received several prestigious grants and awards for my work, such as the European Research Council Starting Grant, the Wallenberg Academy Fellowship, and multiple grants from the Swedish Research Council and the Italian Ministry of University and Research, totally obtaining more than 5 million EUR to fund the research of my laboratory. I have published multiple papers in leading scientific journals, such as Nature, Nature Physics, Nature Nanotechnology, Science and Physical Review Letters. I am passionate about advancing the frontiers of science and technology, as well as inspiring the next generation of physicists and engineers.
