Background

About Stefano Gulinelli

Hi, I’m Stefano, and I’ve always enjoyed figuring out what’s not working and finding a way to fix it. That’s what pulls me toward software quality assurance—it’s all about catching the little things that make a big difference. My internship at Akiflow in 2024, where I worked on bug reports and tested workflows, showed me how much I like this kind of problem-solving. I started with a computer science diploma back in 2006, and now I’m ready to build a career in tech. For 8 years at TRW Automotive in Italy (now ZF Group), I focused on getting gears for steering pumps and clutches just right, down to microns, in their Grinding and Gear Cutting departments. They trusted me to handle both areas, which meant learning new systems fast, and I led a small maintenance team to keep everything on track. Later, I co-owned Tiger Wok, sorting out supply chain issues, and managed food operations at the Huntington Library, adapting to whatever came up. Now, as a server at CalTech’s Athenaeum, I’m all about nailing the details for guests, which feels a lot like spotting issues in software. I’m studying for my ISTQB certification and taking free QA courses through Coding Temple, learning tools like Selenium and Cypress. In my spare time, I play around with Arduino projects, working through sensor glitches like they’re QA challenges. I am also building my first historical bow, and that has been a challenge on its own. I’m really interested in how AI is changing testing and would love to hear from QA pros about their experiences or how they balance automation with human insight. Let’s connect at scgulinelli@proton.me to share stories or tips for breaking into QA—I’d enjoy the conversation!
