About Steffanie Alexander

Over 30 years of clinical experience providing effective and respectful treatment to adolescents, adults and families. Trained in a variety of clinical approaches including psychodynamic, family/systems, solution-oriented, CBT, positive psychology, poly vagal theory, neuropsychology her work is at heart collaborative and results oriented. She believes a bio-psycho-social approach is fundamental to providing effective mental health care. New understandings of the nervous system, brain and other physiological factors are important in optimizing mental health treatment. Active treatment methods and skill development take psychotherapy beyond the office. These can include Walk and Talk Therapy, HRV biofeedback and the strategic use of nature, exercise, nutrition and other resources that support our nervous system and mental health. Steffanie frequently works with local PCP, pediatricians, psychiatrists and other healthcare providers. In addition to clinical practice, Steffanie teaches, consults and writes. She has co-authored several books and articles on collaborative strengths-based therapy. Current Interests include: Narrative Media and Resilience, Neuropsychology, Exercise and Mental Health, Nature and Mental Health, Poly Vagal Theory and HRV biofeedback, TBI/CTE. Steffanie practices in Portland, Maine.
