About Stephan George

As a lifelong learner, my educational journey has been nothing short of transformative. I began my academic career as a Catholic monk majoring in Philosophy, but was captivated by the natural sciences and eventually changed my major to Biology. Contrary to popular belief, it was not leaving the monastery that drove me to switch majors; rather, it was the strong beliefs instilled in me by the monastery that encouraged me to pursue my passions. After obtaining my BA from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, I immediately pursued a degree in Plant Science and Molecular Biology at Indiana University. Despite limited job prospects for those with a Master's degree at the time, my skills in analytical chemistry and the separation sciences caught the attention of Hewlett-Packard. Over the course of 21 years in their analytical division, I climbed the ranks from service support engineer to product marketing and training manager, and eventually to Americas Support Business Development Manager. This incredible opportunity allowed me to gain priceless life experiences, living and working in both Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. My love for learning and helping others led me back to graduate school, where I obtained an MA in Counseling. For the past 15 years, I have been teaching in the Life Sciences department at Paradise Valley Community College, after initially starting my career in the Counseling & Career Development department. When asked why I continue to teach at my age, my answer is simple:"Because it keeps me young!" In addition to teaching, I have a diverse range of interests including history, genealogy, reading fiction, computing to increase productivity, gardening, traveling, and enjoying vacations in Hawaii with my spouse. As a candid and engaged individual, I am passionate about sharing my experiences and knowledge with others and look forward to continuing to learn and grow throughout my journey.
