About Stephanie Oconnell

I am an experienced litigation solicitor specialising in healthcare law and the defence of medical negligence claims. I have experience of advising a broad range of stakeholders in the healthcare sector including general practitioners, consultants, non-consultant hospital doctors, nurses, counsellors, dentists and dental clinics, private hospitals, public hospitals, cosmetic clinics, diagnostic clinics, fertility clinics, pharmacies and laboratories. I have represented clients in the High Court and Circuit Court, at Tribunals and at Coroner’s Inquests. In addition to claims based work, I advise in relation to risk management, policy and procedure reviews and legislative and procedural reforms. I qualified as a solicitor in 2013 having trained in a mid-sized practice where I gained significant experience in both Plaintiff and Defendant litigation. Subsequently, my practice for a number of years focused on catastrophic injury litigation and I have extensive experience in birth injury and cerebral palsy claims, obstetric injuries, brain injuries and spinal cord injuries arising from surgical and medical procedures, claims relating to accident and emergency medicine and nervous shock claims. I also have experience in relation to capacity legislation. Originally from Coolmeen, County Clare, I am a law graduate of the National University of Ireland, Galway and Trinity College Dublin.
