About Stephany Breytenbach

Stephany has worked as a forensic anthropologist and archaeologist in Sub-Saharan Africa and Eastern Europe. She has an MSc Anatomy and BSc (Hons) Physical Anthropology from the University of Pretoria, and a BA Archaeology from the University of Southampton. Her previous research while studying covers a range of topics involving memory practices at District 6, validating dental age estimation techniques for South African children, and health status and ancestry of subadults from the South African War. Outside studies, she has helped tutor osteology students and curate the Pretoria Bone Collection and has volunteered on the committee of a charity which organises holiday camps and outreach activities for young girls in Pretoria. Professionally she has helped manage grave relocation projects in South Africa and Mozambique and worked as a Forensic Archaeologist and Anthropologist in Chad and Georgia with the EAAF and ICRC. She consults and participates in short-medium term Humanitarian Forensic Anthropology projects worldwide. With this seemingly wide range of interests and experience, Stephany has a love of different cultures and a focus to restore empathy to unite humanity. She is currently a Commonwealth Scholar based at the London School of Economics on the MSc Conflict Studies program.
