About Stephen Bergin

I am a neurosurgery resident at Duke University Medical Center, committed to advancing patient care for complex conditions of the brain and spine. My training has included comprehensive exposure to cranial and spinal surgery, with a growing subspecialty focus in complex spine deformity, revision surgery, and minimally invasive techniques. In July 2025, I began a Complex Spine Fellowship at Duke, where I will refine advanced surgical skills in deformity correction, sagittal alignment, and spine reconstruction in both adult and pediatric patients. Beyond clinical work, I have a strong academic and research background, holding both an MD and a PhD in Cancer Immunology. My research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national meetings, and I remain active in projects related to spine biomechanics, surgical outcomes, and radiographic classification systems. I am passionate about combining surgical expertise, research, and education to deliver optimal outcomes for patients and to contribute to the evolution of neurosurgical practice.
