About Stephen Blauweiss
A native of Manhattan and Hudson Valley resident since Stephen Blauweiss is an independent filmmaker, historian, graphic designer and author, with over 25 years of experience which encompass all aspects, from concept through final production, including photography and photo retouching. He produces work on a wide variety of subjects, from art, education and history to social and environmental issues. With a deep knowledge of history and the arts, including painting, architecture and music, he also produces theatrical events and museum-quality exhibitions on local history, architecture, and the arts in addition to short films about regional artists, including the Woodstock arts colonies. Blauweiss has produced over one hundred short films, three features, and several music videos, including two for Kate Pierson of the B-52s. Twenty of his short films about artists have aired on PBS and have been screened at museums and festivals across the U.S, Europe and Canada, including the New York State Museum, MASS MoCA, the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, and the Albany Institute of History & Art, for which he created four short films about select artists in their collection, with funds provided by a National Endowment of the Arts grant. Blauweiss has taught for over 25 years, including a decade at Pratt Institute and FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology). He has taught graphic design, video production and editing and has deep experience in an array of digital media, including video and graphic services for television, print and the web. Blauweiss has published a book on historic Kingston with his partner Karen Berelowitz, The Life & Death of the Kingston Post Office" and they are currently working on a second one,"Historic Kingston: Looking Back, Moving Forward." He co-produced and co-directed the feature documentary Lost Rondout: A Story of Urban Removal, which goes beyond the devastating destruction of hundreds of buildings to discuss the displacement of Kingston's downtown community.
