About Stephen Calabrese

The experience that I have in computer-aided design is mostly in Fusion 360 and SolidWorks because of my early college background in mechanical engineering, but that didn’t stop me from picking up AutoCAD once I began studying civil engineering. I also gained experience using EPANET to model a stormwater network while taking a hydraulics class at USF.I spend most of my time designing parts for my own projects. As you can see from my attached résumé, one of my major projects involves using Fusion 360 to design chassis and other modules for my combat robots. This is a hobby that I am very passionate about since it allows me to utilize and improve my knowledge of CAD. I learn and put solutions into action. It also provides a great challenge for me to work independently, though I do hope to add new members to my team in the future. During my senior year of college, I was a member of a group that worked on a preliminary bridge design. While I was a member of the superstructure team, I worked on vertical curve optimizations, shear bracing calculations, and cost reductions. I gained perspective on the amount of cooperation that goes into completing a group design project of that magnitude. It reinforced what I already understand when working with others, which is that all ideas are valuable and that there is more than one correct solution to any engineering problem. I was also the leading member in creating a repair manual for the Fujifilm FinePix S4800 digital camera. This manual is available for use on the website, iFixit. This project required a lot of teamwork, dedication to detail, and superb communication skills. Inadequate conveyance of information can lead to complications during repair, so it was paramount to make the manual as easy to follow as possible.
