I believe leadership starts with listening—and that trust is earned in the quiet moments before the crisis. I’m Stephen Combs, a Public Information Officer and Emergency Manager with a passion for helping people feel informed, valued, and seen—especially when the pressure is on. I’ve spent the past decade serving at local, county, and state levels—responding to hurricanes, guiding communities through disasters, and working alongside public servants who give everything to protect others. I’ve been honored to teach, write, and lead—from developing national curriculum to contributing to an award-winning emergency management textbook. But the heart of my work is simple: People first. Always. I’m now building Firebase Leadership, a project designed to help students, business leaders, and public safety professionals lead with courage, compassion, and clarity. I’m also a proud husband, dad of five, and Pops to two—and I carry that same father’s heart into every room I walk into.
