Out-of-the-box thinker, with strong insight and a talent for finding patterns in data, often missed by others, resulting in several fundamental and paradigm shifting astronomical discoveries. • Expert in data analysis & visualisation and statistical & numerical methods. Mainly with (very messy and heterogenous) astrophysical data, but also in education research, student populations, psychology and marketing. • Leader of my own research and teaching groups and several international collaborations, comprising scientists from over 30 institutions. Experience in several international settings (UK, Sweden, Chile, Australia, New Zealand) • Strong communicator with stakeholders at various levels, through publications, observing time applications, public and specialist presentations and a regular expert for both New Zealand and Australian national broadcasters. • Passionate and effective teacher (overall “excellent” in student evaluations), who has inspired many students into STEM careers and overhauled experimental teaching programmes, leading to enhanced academic outcomes for students. • Internationally recognised expert in the field, contributing to science reviews, invited talks at international conferences/institutions. • Total of 100 refereed journal publications, 59 as first/sole author.
