About Stephen Gibson

Stephen Gibson is senior attorney in the Dallas office of Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr P.C, where he concentrates his advocacy in post-trial and appellate practice, litigation support, insurance coverage and insurance extra-contractual liability. Stephen is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and all state and federal courts in Texas. Among his reported decisions are: Chrysler Ins. Co. v. Greenspoint Dodge of Houston, 265 S.W.3d 52 (Tex. 2009)(per curiam), recognizing that a knowledge-of-falsity exclusion applies to a corporation based on the imputed knowledge of employees; Nat’l Union Fire Ins. Co. v. Dominguez, 873 S.W.2d 373 (Tex. 1994), establishing that an insurer could not be held liable for the tort of failing to settle a first-party claim so long as there was a reasonable basis for the insurer’s conduct; St. Paul Surplus Lines Ins. Co. v. Geo Pipe Co, 25 S.W.3d 900 (Tex. App. – Houston [1st Dist.] pet. dism’d by agr.), holding that “sudden” as used in insurance policies is not ambiguous and has a temporal requirement; and Southstar Energy Corp. v. St. Paul Surplus Lines Ins. Co, 42 S.W.3d 187 (Tex. App. – Corpus Christi 2001, no pet.), involving the applicability of policy exclusions for the alleged misappropriation of advertising ideas. Stephen received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in absentia in 1978 while serving as an assistant to the late Hon. W. R. “Bob” Poage, M.C, during the 95th Congress. He received his Juris Doctorate from Baylor University in 1984. He then served as a briefing and research attorney for the Court of Appeals for the Fifth District of Texas at Dallas before entering private practice. Stephen has also served as instructor in legal writing for the Paralegal Studies Program at Southern Methodist University and in civil procedure for the El Centro Community College Paralegal Studies Program.
