About Stephen Graydon

Simply and succinctly, I am motivated by a good challenge. My previous challenges had me parachuting and rappelling out of aircraft to fight wildfire, pursuing a graduate degree, and writing grant proposals, media kits, and research articles. Recently, I have been managing multiple forest improvement projects, implementing prescribed fire Training Exchange (TREX) with The Nature Conservancy, and working with communities, ecological interests and tribal organizations to build capacity and safely execute prescribed fire at an increased scale. I have worked with international partners to train, study, and practice the Incident Command System (ICS), and maintain contacts in the global fire community to better engage with concerns outside of the US. Writing about the negotiation of environment, risk, and the perception of fire, some of my recent work received praise from communication scholars. My last two submissions to associations were accepted by the Western States Communication Association (WSCA; 2016), and National Communication Association (NCA; 2016) conferences. I earned a place on the dean's list at CSU, Chico while taking 24 units and completing a public relations internship. What matters most to me is that I work for an organization that needs creative and strategic ideas, effective communication of those ideas, and that together these actions produce a positive impact on society and the environment. Keep me challenged, and I'll keep you impressed.
