About Stephen Hilbert

Stephen L Hilbert, PhD MD, Principal Consultant, CardioMed Device Consultants has over thirty-six years of experience in the area of cardiovascular medical device development, safety and performance studies and the explant pathology of investigational cardiovascular devices. In addition to his role as a cardiovascular device consultant he also serves as the Deputy Director for Research Heart Center/Cardiac Surgery, Children’s Mercy Hospital (Kansas City, MO) and 30 years of regulatory experience as a senior FDA reviewer in the Division of Cardiovascular Devices, Center for Devices and Radiological Health. He also participates in a variety of national and international scientific advisory activities serving as an independent US Expert on the International Standards Organization 5840, Cardiac Valve Working Group; a four year appointment as a member of the Scientific progress Review Panel, Pediatric Cardiac Mechanical Support Program, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health; and, as an Associate Editor, Cardiovascular Engineering and Technology, a Biomedical Engineering Society journal.
