About Stephen Howells

I have particular expertise in commercial disputes involving civil fraud and breach of equitable duties and the recovery of funds in Eastern Europe including in relation to family estates, fraud bankruptcy and taxation. I have appeared in major litigation involving property restitution in Germany, Czech Republic, Poland and other eastern European countries. I am an accredited mediator and approved for receipt of instructions by public access. I have also practised in employment and industrial law in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific Islands. In each of these jurisdictions the English common law underpins the conduct of mediation and litigation, and the statutory regimes for the settlement of individual and collective employment disputes. I have advised on these matters and appeared before all of the relevant Courts and Tribunals since 1986. I have advised on and appeared in cases involving wrongful dismissal or termination, breach of terms of employment, breach of restrictive covenants, harassment, underpayment, recovery of overpayment, breach of industrial awards and collective agreements, pension and superannuation entitlements, redundancy and retrenchment decisions and compensation. I have advised on the drafting of employment proposals and agreements including remuneration arrangements with share and option benefits, partnerships, and proprietary interests. I have also advised on and appeared in cases concerning the main jurisdictional questions affecting disputes about contract arrangements, foreign workers, public employment and office holding. I have conducted inquiries for and provided reports to Federal and State Governments in a broad range of areas from immigration to the gambling industry, insolvency, health and religious organisations.
