HULBERT Music Teacher, Farmer, Wedding Officiant, Senior Chaplain, Certified Professional Wedding Planner (C.P.W.P.), Event Planner, Butterfly Release Specialist, Beekeeper, Advanced Master Gardener, Master Composter Mr. Stephen Hulbert is in his 25th year of teaching vocal music in Utica Community Schools and is currently the Music teacher at Wiley Elementary. Mr. Hulbert has always enjoyed singing. He graduated from Sterling Heights High School where he was a member of the "Sterling Silver" Show Choir under the direction of Mrs. Jane Christy. It was Mrs. Christy's influence that inspired Mr. Hulbert to pursue music in college. After high school, Mr. Hulbert attended Macomb Community College and was a member of both the chamber choir and the "Macombers" Show Choir. Mr. Hulbert received his BA from Eastern Michigan University in Music Education and his MAT from Marygrove College. During his tenure in Utica Community Schools, Mr. Hulbert has taught all grades ranging from K-12. In 2005-2016, Mr. Hulbert along with teaching partner, Heather Andrus, began the Wiley Explosion Show Choir program at Wiley Elementary."Wiley Explosion" was a show choir group made up of very talented auditioned singer/dancers ranging from grades four through six. Mr. Hulbert was also a 2020 Utica Community Schools teacher of the year nominee. Apart from teaching music, Mr. Hulbert enjoys doing many other activities such as farming, officiating weddings, practicing yoga, remodeling his house, gardening, calligraphy, stained glass, blacksmithing, cake decorating, pottery, beekeeping, knitting, weaving, quilting and building his garden-gage railroad and his 7.5” gage/2.5”scale railroad on his 20 acre hobby farm in Metamora, MI. As a lover of trains and the railroad, Stephen has worked the last two summers learning about boiler fabrication for small scale steam locomotives from Martin Knox at Ridge Boiler Works. Stephen is currently building a 2.5” scale 4-4-0 steam locomotive that he can run on his 7.5” gage railroad on his hobby farm. Stephen is a lover of life and loves to learn.
