I have 37 years experience in fire and emergency medical fields. I have served in the capacity of firefighter/EMT to the position as administrative fire chief. As Fire Chief in the City of Shamokin I am responsible for the administrative duties before, during and after fire incidents. I am the commanding officer for 6 companies. I served as a 911 telecommunicater for the Northumberland Co. DPS from June 2001 until I was promoted to the Operations and Training Officer June 28 2004 until 2012 for the Northumberland County Department of Public Safety. The job required me to be decisive and a communicator, as the operations and training officer I interfaced with first responders and private industry in training or in disaster planning. I assisted administratively during emergencies in the field or in the Emergency Operations Center. I have facilitated several disaster drills and exercises in the past as well as coordinated emergency incidents such as a plan crash, train derailments, hazardous materials incidents, floods and evacuations. I have worked side by side with state, local and federal law enforcement officials during special operations. Working with local municipalities and TEIR II facilities with the duties and responsibilities for preparing for manmade and natural disasters, with focuses on emergency planning, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability. On September 24, 2012 I was promoted to the position of Director of Public Safety /Emergency Management. My position oversees the daily operations of the department which includes EMA and 911 services. The position allows me to work with county first responders, law enforcement officials, municipalities and facilities within the County of Northumberland. On my down time in the summer I tend to spend time with the folks from the NHRA where I'm employed with the Safety Safari. Having the opportunity to work with this group of people has given me the opportunity to meet professionals from all over the country.
