About Stephen Lambert

I am an experienced regulatory fire safety engineer and risk manager. I have both regulatory fire engineering and private sector consultation experience. I also have practical and supervisory enforcement experience with both the RR(FS)O and the Fire Precautions Act. I have extensive fire risk assessment experience in high value/ high consequence premises ranging from hospitals, through hotels and offices to extensive aviation facilities. I was also a fatal incident/high value fire investigator and latterly have implemented management arrangements for, and undertaken, post-incident investigations concerning humans behaviour and the behaviours of structures and fire systems in the event of fire. I am passionate about ensuring the built environment is reasonably safe and fit for purpose for users and that premises management is appropriate to the risk posed by the structure and the occupants. I am a qualified in Fire Engineering (B.Eng) and Fire Safety Engineering (MSc) as well as having gained the range of sub-degree Fire Safety qualifications available through the Fire Service College (thank you, Colin Meech). I also have a postgraduate qualification in Occupational Safety & Health, am a Member/Chartered Member of the IFE, the IRM, the IIRSM and IOSH and was registered on the OSHCR before returning to regulatory activities. I am registered as an Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council. Where possible, I emphasise the use of the simple, pragmatic solutions because these require the least continuing intervention to make them work. I have deployed fire and evacuation modelling to support strategies where simple solutions were not available. Having gained registration as an Incorporated Engineer, I am working towards CEng registration and am looking forward to expanding my experience and gaining the necessary evidence.
