About Stephen Lambert

How?It’s my favorite question. As a kid I would annoy my parents asking why this and why that. But I find satisfaction in knowing how things work, so I ask it as often as I can. The thing I love about Chemical Engineering is it combines chemistry which answers a lot of hows about the earth with engineering which answers how we can use that knowledge to change people’s lives. I also am interested in how money moves, obtaining a minor in business administration, with special interest in accounting and finance. In my current position, I solve problems with pilot sized units. The student tells me what is wrong, I use my knowledge of how the unit works to create a list of possible issues, then check the unit for the issues listed until the problem is found and fixed. I also think about how we could improve units and test potential improvements. When I tutored, I had to communicate with students to learn how they learn best, then I had to adapt my teaching style to their learning style. The greatest how I’ve solved is how to complete my senior project during the pandemic. My team and I committed to a schedule where we would meet over Zoom twice a week for 4 to 5 hours at a time, working through and troubleshooting our Aspen Plus program and calculating the estimated capital investment for our project together. At the end of the semester, our hard work paid off with an A on the project and for the class. Outside of work, I love watching sports, analyzing the box scores of games I didn’t watch to figure out how the final score came about, and talking about sports to anyone willing to listen. I am also involved in my local church, helping plan events for the ministry and engaging with the people who come whether old or new.
