About Stephen Lieb

I am a guide with skills to help my clients build their business, protect their intellectual property assets, and safely navigate hazards posed by the IP of others. My passion is engaging with inventors to understand and translate their ideas into a clear, effective, and enforceable property right. I have been a voracious reader of science and technology literature since childhood and studied physics as an undergraduate. I've maintained a lifelong interest in astronomy, mathematics, and physics, which gives me tools to understand a variety of phenomena underlying inventions in fields like medical devices, electronics, telecommunications, and machine tools. On my best days, I get to get on the phone with a bunch of engineers and "geek out" on their ideas. Having been out in the real world (where things get made, shipped, and sold) I also have experience as a working engineer and know that all products are developed under constraints of opportunity, cost, and time. I represent clients in U.S. courts in intellectual property disputes, as well as before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Interferences, Reexaminations, and in post-grant proceedings (IPR, PGR, CBM) under the America Invents Act.
