About Stephen Lynch

I have worked in the healthcare industry for a number of years and have gained vast experience at corporate and group level including being part of the largest private healthcare merger Ireland has ever seen. Adding to this I also have gained invaluable hands on experience on the ground while leading and managing frontline services in the form of both outpatient departments and clinical supports services before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. I do however have a passion for data and reporting of such which I believe is the key to providing informed decision making as well as improving and developing current and new services respectively. While studying for my bachelors in Business from University College Dublin I become very interested in performance management. So much so that my thesis was guided by this and was based on the implementation of Total Performance Management in Healthcare (with a defined emphasis on nursing staff). This has lead me to my current role within the HSE where I work as part of the Business Information Unit providing reporting on all 52 Acute Care Hospitals across the healthcare system in Ireland. This role has allowed me to acquire an even more in-depth view and knowledge of performance management and reporting in healthcare. The role has also exposed me to much larger projects than I had previously worked on with very knowledgeable and experienced colleges to call on for support. As I note under my experience in this role I am delighted to say I have been able to successfully develop and implement a new Cancellations of Planned Activity policy and subsequent report which is distributed nationally. I have also most recently helped with the development and implication of the Ukraine Temporary Protection Directive for Acute Care Hospitals, and I am working on a number of other projects including redevelopment of Theatre Utilisation Data and reporting.
