About Stephen McConnell

Stephen McConnell is a Director of Architecture with Fujitsu Australia. He is based in Adelaide where he undertakes engagements spanning a broad range of architectural roles, from Enterprise Architecture, Integration Architecture, Solution and Implementation Architecture, through to Forensic Architecture. In the early 1990s he worked with several multinational large scale projects dealing with highly-distributed systems (typically pan-European in nature). This work involved research and development into areas including artificial intelligence, distributed project management, and intelligent networked devices. In 1997 he was elected Chairman of the Object Management Group’s Electronic Commerce Task Force. In that role he facilitated the development of the OMG Electronic Commerce Roadmap and contributed to a number of internal standardisation initiatives. In he received the OMG Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his contribution. Since 2008 Stephen has been dealing with the way systems evolve and the processes around system engineering and governance. In 2010, Stephen undertook the development of the Fujitsu Architecture Practice in South Australia. In 2012 he was appointed National Architecture Practice Lead. In this capacity he developed a formal Architecture Services framework spanning planning and governance, architectural management, and software engineering. More recently Stephen has been applying these principals to major engagements in South Australia. He has worked with the South Australian Government Criminal Justice Information Management program (Attorney-General’s Department) in the development of an information management strategy, a whole-of-justice architecture, and reform program. He has lead the development of departmental reference models, baseline and reference architectures, and established formal frameworks for the delivery of architectural services.
