About Stephen McGill

I am currently a Supervisor in Signalling and Telecomms at Aberdeen. We cover maintenance, faulting, installation and testing on various assets in our section. I hold a valid IRSE licence in Signalling Maintainer & Fault Finder (1.4.230) I started my railway career by completing Network Rails advanced apprenticeship scheme then returning to Aberdeen as an operative. Over the years I gained the experience and knowledge to allow me to be promoted to Technician, Team Leader and into my current role as Supervisor. I have a lot of technical competencies covering SMTH/Points/Signals/Level crossings/Train detection & Train protection/ I also hold various safety competencies such as COSS/PC/ES/Site Warden/First Aid/Health and Safety and others All of these can be found on Sentinel. In 2014 I completed a higher national dimploma at Sheffield Hallam university whilst working with Network Rail and this gave me further knowledge and experience to better myself. I believe as a team leader that I have a range of skills to lead a team effectively and efficiently with good communication and understanding. I look to promote the strengths of the team whilst mentoring the weaknesses to get the best out of each individual. I fully understand the importance of safety and technical standards and how these go hand in hand with the running of the railway. My main strengths are communication, people management, excellent time management, honest and trustworthy, have a willingness to learn, approachable and hard working. I work well on my own as well as in a team. I have just started a L6 BEng (Hons) in Rail and Rail Systems Senior Engineer degree at London South Bank University as I look to progress my career, knowledge and skills. Away from work I love to spend time with my family, play golf, football, swim and enjoy going to the gym. I am a very active person and this reflects in my personality
