About Stephen Mohney

After having grown up in Kenya, attended the University of Ghana (Legon) and spent a career teaching in public schools in New York City, I co-founded and have funded the nonprofit NGO Tech4Ghana to promote rural development through information and communication technology and literacy there. My business partner, Donald Yao Molato, and I opened our first Computer Center and Library in Wli/Volta Region in 2009. With free access local primary and middle schools schedule visits for their Information and Communication Technology classes. We are also involved in re[rain]forestation and environmental conservation advocacy there to prevent further destruction of the native forest and promote forest restoration. in 2013, a new non-profit New York state-registered entity, Tech4GhanaUSA, was established with an expanded Board of Directors. Tech4GhanaUSA's application for the US tax-exempt 501(c)3 public charity status was approved by the Internal Revenue Service, We opened a Computer Lab in 2017, in a room large enough to accommodate a class of students. We also opened up restrooms, supplied with clean aquifer water from the borehole well that we had to drill. In October 2018, we will open our permanent Library. We serve four elementary and middle schools in three rural communities. Tech4GhanaUSA will be able to build more Computer Labs and Libraries and serve ever more rural communities of Ghana. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide that separates us, promote rural development, and alleviate poverty and gender inequity in those communities. We have just launched a GoFundMe campaign.
