About Stephen Murcott

Although academically a student of human sciences I started on a BBC Micro back in the 80s which must be why I am currently working as an IT operations specialist at Hexagon. I have successfully mastered a wide variety of systems over the years in many different roles but really prefer open source because of the flexibility, transparency and power of the solutions. I view IT in a holistic way and this makes me very adaptable to getting to grips with advanced concepts and quirks of all the many systems I have had to work with. My long term goal is to be working in a scenario where I feel that what I do is contributing to the flow of global communication in a way that empowers organizations and people at many levels, especially something like health or education.(not just helping corporations be more competitive, although this is more profitable for me at the moment) Specialties: Firewalls ipv4 and ipv6 (IPS, WAF and Gateway), DNS, Proxies, VPNs, VLANS, System Administration solutions, Training, Motivating teams, Virtualization, AWS Cloud (ec2), Linux, Web applications, open source, PCI DSS, creative problem solving. Currently working in a global level in a senior cyber security incident response role for Hexagon AB.
