I am a PhD researcher and machine learning expert specialising in optical communications with 5+ years experience working in a photonics systems lab, and a strong technical background in digital signal processing, laser science, and opto-electronic systems. My research combines my interests in physics and AI, and focuses on developing novel neural network algorithms for overcoming non-linear optical distortions affecting high-speed signals in optical access networks. I am passionate about public outreach and engagement, and co-led the student team which launched University College Cork’s official postgraduate journal, The Boolean, whose mission is to communicate to the general public the vast range of exciting research taking place on campus.
