About Stephen Nixon

After completing my high school education in 2006, I joined Macmahon Contracting, where I successfully completed my Cert 3 in Mobile Plant Technology (Heavy Duty). I left Macmahon in 2011 and moved over to Rio Tinto, Yandicoogina operation. This is where I stayed for the next 12 years. During that time I was able to gain exposure to all facets of the mining industry, all while honing my skills in my trade, predominantly as a breakdown / field mechanic, which is where I exceled. The fast paced and dynamic environment of being out in the field and having to make decisions quickly to get an asset up and running, all while maintaining high safety standards and quality of work is what I enjoy. I've been able to use these skills to progress into leadership roles, starting as the workshop coordinator and step-up supervisor, to eventually becoming the breakdown / field maintenance supervisor. I held this role for 3 years until I transitioned over to the workshop supervisor. Currently, I'm the workshop supervisor at Western Turner Syncline 1 and reside in the town of Tom Price as a residential employee of Rio Tinto.
