About Stephen Ogden

I enjoy working at the interface between science, industry and regulators to achieve better trade and biosecurity outcomes. I set up Market Access Solutionz Ltd in 2002 to focus on achieving this. Based in Wellington, our team of eight professional staff provide independent technical services to clients across the primary sector in New Zealand and the Pacific. We have expertise in the fields of biosecurity, food safety, export market requirements, agrichemicals, and managing plant health research programmes. My own work is largely with horticulture industry representatives and growers, assisting them to manage and respond to biosecurity incursions, develop certification systems and navigate regulatory processes. Successes over the past few years include leading the potato industry research and extension response to the incursion of Tomato Potato Psyllid, managing the Summerfruit industry market access programme, and managing Citrus New Zealand biosecurity programme. I have advised clients on a range of market access and technical issues including- reviewing import health standards - pest management including monitoring emerging pests - designing pest surveys and analyzing pest interception data - developing certification programmes - developing IPM resources such as pest and disease handbooks - technical communications to growers and farmers Prior to founding MAS I served for eight years as the National Advisor and then Team Leader of the Plant Exports group of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. My BSc (Hons.) and PhD in Zoology are from the University of Otago.
