About Stephen Penner

My family has has a long history of working in the Oil patch and I have had a lot of exposure to the industry since I was little. I graduated in 2010 with a diploma in petroleum technology from SAIT and from there I went out to the field working on service rigs. The first hand experience in operations was definitely an added asset, and increased my awareness significantly. From there I moved back to Calgary with a job offer as an exploitation technologist for CNRL. I have now been with CNRL since 2011 and had the opportunity to work on many different assets over the years. In 2018 I received my P.L.(Eng.) designation from APEGA in addition to being certified as a C.E.T. from ASET. Since 2019 I have managed my own area as an exploitation engineer and have executed many successful workover campaigns, determined yearly budgets, and completed year end reserves. During my time at CNRL I have also developed a specialty for acquisition and divestiture evaluations, business development and execution excellence. I have been involved with many different development programs throughout my career and optimized/ranked development areas within a budget. I have worked through many challenges and look forward to facing the new ones!
