About Stephen Phillips

Since Feb 2015, I have led a team of electrical, mechanical, software and firmware engineers to design, develop, test and document high precision research equipment. I use my strong programming background, along with light electrical and mechanical engineering skills, to ensure the products developed meet the exact standards our customers expect. As a leader in our field, we have a strong reputation for precision, reliability and ease of use to maintain; and quality products require diligent engineering oversight. Prior to taking my position as development manager, I worked as a programmer on both software and firmware to bring the equipment to life and keep it operational. Since this equipment is meant to be left operating unmonitored for long periods of time, self-recovery and automated control is a necessity. I often focused on improving the underlying architecture to ensure it could be tested and debugged quickly and completely. I have a strong analytical mind and often perform device troubleshooting, using logic analyzers, electrical analysis equipment, software/firmware debuggers and precision measurement tools to find the root of a problem and fix it. I find that a thorough understanding of how equipment operates is necessary to implement changes without causing undesired side effects. Outside of my professional work, I am a hobbyist game developer, amateur homebrewer, and occasional woodworker.
