About Stephen Prestney

I am a high performing and motivated lawyer with 20 years’ experience managing complex litigation and investigations in both in-house and private practice roles, primarily in the financial services sector. I am currently a Director in the Barclays’ Litigation, Investigations and Enforcement EME team. In my role, I manage litigation and investigation matters covering the entire Barclays Group, with particular responsibility for overseeing issues relating to the Barclays UK business (which includes Consumer Retail, UK Credit Cards, Business Banking and Wealth Management & Investments) and the APAC region. I have particular experience defending significant claimant group actions involving Barclays UK and the Investment Bank businesses. I also have extensive experience leading on regulatory investigations and enforcement actions involving a broad range of issues across Barclays. I am adept at running complex whistleblowing cases, individual accountability reviews and matters with cross-jurisdictional impact. I originally qualified as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand in 2001 at Simpson Grierson. After four years I moved in-house to Bank of New Zealand where I managed a wide range of litigation and insurance matters, covering Retail, Corporate and Commercial areas of the Bank before moving to London, and Barclays, in mid-2009. I am a qualified solicitor in England & Wales and New Zealand.
