About Stephen Schmaler

Currently serve as an investigator for the insider risk program at American Family Insurance. Prior to this current role I spent 20 plus years in the FBI New York Office, 13 of those years in leadership roles (Supervisory Special Agent and Assistant Special Agent in Charge). Served as the Chief Security Officer (CSO) for the New York Field office of the FBI for the final four years of my FBI career where I was responsible for physical, personnel and information security. Prior to that I spent 16 years conducting and supervising Counterintelligence investigations in the FBI New York office and FBI Headquarters. Prior to working for the FBI I spent 11 years working as an environmental engineer for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. I'm a strong business leader with experience leading multiple programs within FBI’s largest administrative division in New York Field Office, and a track record of success in program management, administrative management, security management, budget administration, and Counterintelligence while leading large organizations. I'm trusted to transform vision and strategy into results through team building, motivational leadership, subject matter expertise, sound judgment, problem solving, collaboration, and effective communication.
