About Stephen Scott

Current Writing center tutor, writer, and student at Auburn University. As a writing center tutor, I've enjoyed working with all kinds of students and mediums; it has given me fresh perspectives on various subjects and cultures. And besides helping people, I work for a more selfish reason–to learn more, to write better, and to build relationships. Nothing is more rewarding or satisfying than seeing a student come back for more help, as we have built mutual trust, respect, and a lasting bond. I hope to carry these ideals and give back even after college as a teacher. Doesn't everyone remember his or her favorite teacher?–the one that changed your perspective, the one that sparked a joy in learning. Recently I devoted more time to writing after people's goading–I caved. The Antigonish Review in Canada published my creative non-fiction essay,"Losing Yourself"(five pages), and I look forward to creating more and more works. I base my style around my favorite authors like Breece DJ Pancake, Greg Bottoms, and Elizabeth Wurtzel. They have a sparse, visceral style that conveys all human thoughts, emotions, and interactions in the simplest words. It is a constant learning experience, and I'm constantly improving, constantly adapting and evolving–constantly finding myself.
