About Stephen Thompson

Experienced entrepreneur, executive leader, senior diplomat, general manager, and CEO. Stephen is an innovative leader who has held senior management roles in municipal and provincial government. His career has included planning and economic development leadership and he has served on a variety of boards and committees including the Economic Developers Association of Canada and the University of Waterloo Economic Development Program Committee. He holds Canadian and International certifications in Economic Development and is also a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) and is a member of the Economic Development Association of Canada, Economic Development Council of Ontario, International Economic Development Council, Ontario Professional Planners Institute, and Canadian Institute of Planners As a skilled senior-executive, he has transformed and built highly successful city and regional economic development organizations. He has also worked internationally on four-year diplomatic assignment, where he focused on investment attraction and trade development as Ontario’s senior representative and head of office in the Western United States. Prior to joining the City of London, Stephen was CEO of Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership where he led the organization to become an Accredited Economic Development Organization, making it the fourth in Canada to attain this top international distinction. Stephen is originally from London and is very excited to be back in the City and leveraging his experience as Director of Economic Services and Supports and contribute to London's future.
