About Stephen Thompson

I am a facilitator of project-based student learning with a specialty in mathematics. Working within a competency-based model, I assist students in meeting standard-based quantitative goals necessary for high school graduation. In this unique and progressive educational environment, I focus on 21st century skills such as critical thinking/problem solving, self-management, communication, and collaboration. I assist students in their investigation of complex real world problems and their corresponding response. My specialty is in the quantitative aspect of project-based learning, so I assist students in helping to see the math connections where they are not immediately evident. I assist my mentor group of 10-12 students through all aspects of their individual projects: selection, inquiry, revision, presentation, and reflection. In addition to my project-based learning duties, I teach 3 math classes covering content from Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. I have blended multiple curricula and developed formative and summative assessments to meet the unique needs of my students. These personalized assessments have allowed me to identify gaps and deliver targeted and individualized interventions.
