Background
About Stephen Ward
Dedicated to sustainability and green building programs, I excel in designing, launching, and administering offerings that enable decision-makers to realize value while reducing their environmental footprint. I am known for empowering stakeholders to use a holistic approach to sustainability that makes their operations more efficient while creating cost savings and a “green” impact on their community. Additionally, I am committed to making sustainability practices and principles accessible to a greater audience, enabling the public to understand the benefit of “sustainability in action.” I currently serve as the program manager for Southface’s sustainable operations and maintenance green building certification program, BIT Building, where building owners, operators, and tenants are provided with the guidance to improve operations, reduce costs, and achieve sustainability goals while also providing recognition for those achievements. I am also charged with maintaining Southface’s best-in-class demonstration building and the surrounding campus that showcases more than 100 off-the-shelf sustainable technologies and design techniques. Recognized as a Thought Leader in the industry, I have been honored to speak at industry and national conferences such as the National Facilities Management and Technology Conference and Expo 2024: Every Building Counts: Sustainability Without Limits as well as Greenbuild: Implementing the Future of LEED with LEED v5 Operations + Maintenance. I am a Certified LEED Accredited Professional in sustainable operations and maintenance (AP O+M), sustainable building design and construction (AP BD+C), sustainable interior design and construction (ID+C), and sustainable landscape and design (SITES AP). My additional credentials include TRUE Advisor in zero waste and a Certified Sustainable Facility Professional (SFP) through IFMA. I also hold a Bachelor of Music in Double Bass from The Juilliard School and enjoy leading the double bass section of the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra.
