About Stephen Ward

An experienced engineering professional with a track record of identifying, planning and delivering successful projects in a planned and methodical way. Developing positive working relationship through clear communication and proactive stakeholder management is a skill that I have developed throughout my career. I lead a small team to maintain, update and renew the Wellington Cable Car assets, with a focus on: improving safety and reliability; maintaining legislative compliance; and meeting customer expectations. In 2016 I managed the successful upgrade of the Cable Car drive and control system and the refurbishment of the Cars. Before joining Wellington Cable Car I was a Country Manager for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and managed their business in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. I developed relationships with generators and lines companies to identify matches between utility's needs and EPRI's research projects. Another key achievement was working with the Department of Building and Housing on changes to the New Zealand Building Code resulting in improved thermal performance of new homes. This included representing the Department on a New Zealand Standards committee. A combination of technical engineering knowledge, project management and relationship management skills has enabled me to achieve positive results in several organisations.
