Commander Steve Addison has been a member of the Denver Police Department for twenty eight years. He is currently the Commander of the Accountability and Professional Development Bureau leading the Internal Affairs and Professional Development Units. He previously worked as a Lieutenant in the Strategic Investigations Bureau Counter Threats Section, Internal Affairs Bureau, Homicide, Robbery, Cold Case, and Night Shift Units of the Major Crimes Division, patrol District 6, which is the heart of the city and includes Downtown, Five Points/Curtis Park, South Lincoln Park and Capitol Hill neighborhoods. He also spent 3 1/2 years working in the Gang Unit and 2 years in Criminal Investigations where he managed the Night Shift Major Crimes Unit and was an aid to the Division Chief of Investigations. In addition to his normal duties, Lieutenant Addison is the supervisor for the Denver Police Department Law Enforcement Advocate Program. The Law Enforcement Advocate Program is a collaboration with Denver Juvenile Probation and Diversion that was designed to concurrently focus on prevention, recovery management, and public safety for substance affected families involved with the Denver court system. He carries a regular case load of clients and also supervises the other Law Enforcement Advocates. Lieutenant Addison has a Bachelors Degree from the University of Wyoming in Administration of Justice, with a minor in Public Law and a minor in Sociology; A Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Colorado’s Graduate School of Public Affairs, is a graduate of the International Association of Chief of Police Leadership in Policing program and is a certified Transitional and Leadership Management Coach through the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara California.
