About Steve Alberty

All too often, legal documents are drafted with little regard for whether the parties understand them. They’re long and detailed and contain “legalese” that can be ambiguous or even incomprehensible. I think this is inappropriate, particularly in the context of small businesses where owners often lack experience in legal matters and need a clear understanding of their rights and obligations in order to work together. After a 31-year career as a practicing lawyer, I now work full time as legal writer devoted to helping both small business lawyers and their clients understand the law of limited liability companies and other business organizations. I write books designed to provide small business lawyers with information about areas of the law they are likely to encounter in their day-to-day practices, with references for further research if required. I also create forms for drafting legal documents that are clear and concise. Each form is written in plain English and contains only the provisions needed to create the desired relationship between the parties. In the case of LLC forms sold by Alberty Publishing, each form contains commentary explaining each provision—why it’s in the form, what it does, and whether alternatives should be considered.
