About Steve Barwick

Reporting into the JRM Group MD I am responsible for Engineering within the company. I provide Management and Leadership to a fantastic team of Engineers which I am now growing in depth and capability, really exciting! Working closely with the Operations and Business Development teams on the same site ensures an effective and productive relationship in a great environment and culture. We are also developing the site to improve vehicle workshops and fabrication facilities. Although I am an ambassador for virtual Engineering I really enjoy seeing our in house designs manufactured within our machining and fabrication shops. To be able to see and touch parts, and the vehicles you have built gives my team and myself pride in what we achieve. Additionally we have a DMG 3D metal printer which can print Aluminium, Titanium, and Steel components. This has proved really useful in printing complex prototype parts for our GT23 track car in short lead times. E.g. Aluminium inlet manifolds. I am currently researching new material substrates and joining techniques which will enable structures to reduce overall CO2 signatures. My role enables development of innovative solutions for existing and new problems, in particular reducing CO2 which I find fascinating. I am currently investigating new component and vehicle solutions which will offer improved functional performance and be easier and more productive to re-cycle. My main industry focus is enabling future Transportation systems. Specialities: 12 years in a design consultancy as a senior manager solving customer problems through deployment of very capable engineers. 20 years in OEMS: Significant Chassis design experience specialising in suspension systems and components delivering complex systems into production. Proven leadership and interpersonal skills. Concept design, bench marking, and performance measurement. Project management, strategic planning, and delivery within Vehicle OEM, and Consultancy. Creative conceptual thinker. I genuinely enjoy finding novel solutions and leading projects which develop them into a virtual, then physical proof of concept demonstrator. Driven, positive, very strong work ethic. Delivering a well engineered solution through effective utilisation of teams and partners gives me great satisfaction. I have developed advanced off highway suspension concepts achieving paradigm shifts in terrain access performance. I have an unusual but increasingly useful understanding of heavy plant and slow speed Diesel ICE from my early years as a Marine Engineer.
