About Steve Birchard

Steve is a Principal in Deloitte Consulting’s Strategy and Analytics practice in Chicago. He specializes in the Health Care industry practice. Mr. Birchard has extensive experience in corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, health plan product & growth strategy, and provider delivery system integration. He has assisted numerous client organizations in defining their strategic planning initiatives, redesigning their business operating model, evaluating customer segments and product lines, and transforming their technology systems. Mr. Birchard leads Deloitte’s national Health Care Strategy practice. He is responsible for building a national client portfolio focused on strategy formulation, large-scale transformation, and emerging technology adoption. Over the course of his career, Steve has served as the lead consulting Principal at multiple regional and national health care institutions, including: • Advocate Health • Aetna • BCBS Massachusetts, BCBS Minnesota, BCBS North Carolina, BCBS North Dakota, Excellus BCBS • Blue Cross Blue Shield Association • CareFirst • Carle Health • Health Care Services Corporation (HCSC) • Kaiser Permanente • Endeavor Health (Northshore Health System) • University of Chicago Medicine • Wellmark Steve also leads Deloitte’s national relationship with City Year, an organization dedicated to supporting the success of students in systemically under-resourced schools. Since 2007, Deloitte has played a critical role in supporting City Year’s services in high schools through pro bono services and mentoring. Every year, more than 500 hundred Deloitte professionals across the US mentor City Year Americorps members. Mr. Birchard has served on the City Year National Board since 2020. He chairs the Audit & Risk Committee and serves on the Finance Committee, as well as the Strategic Growth Committee. He is a member of the Executive Committee. Steve began his career working at Memorial Health System in South Bend, IN serving as Vice President, Operations. Steve is active with the University of Iowa's Health Management Program. He is the past Chair of the Alumni Board.
