About Steve Black

Steve is a Technical Director within the Bridges Sector with extensive experience in the highway and rail environment. Steve manages the performance and resources of AECOM's Bridge team in Chesterfield. In addition to his operational responsibilities he has been managing AECOM's delivery of the structural designs on Smart Motorway schemes where URS (now AECOM) has helped to lead the development of this new and innovative use of existing infrastructure. Steve thrives on challenging projects and is very much Client and delivery focused He also brings additional skills from the Rail sector where he has worked closely with Network Rail and Contractors on major upgrade schemes. Steve also acted on behalf of Network Rail with responsibility for reviewing and approving bridge submissions by outside parties. Steve has excellent experience in delivering bridge solutions on major multi-disciplinary projects working in a collaborative arrangement with Contractors and Clients. He particularly enjoys the pressures and rewards available when working alongside Contractors. This has been enhanced by periods of secondment to Contractors where he managed their consultant supply chain. His experience includes the design of bridges using both the English and American codes, including the seismic design of bridges in Turkey. Steve's design experience has been supplemented by significant site experience on major transport schemes in his capacity as Resident Engineer and more recently as the DSR on Mersey Gateway
