Psychology Every Teacher Should Know: Alfred Adler, a contemporary of Freud and one of the founders of psychotherapy, believed that psychology was not something that should to be shrouded in mystery, kept vague and out of reach like a dangerous medicine. He believed that psychotherapeutic psychology was something that should be taught to all teachers and care professionals. He saw it as a vital and transformative tool; a straightforward set of ideas that were sensible for everyone to understand. As far back as the 1920s, he argued that teachers should be armed with the important lessons of psychotherapeutic thinking. If you work with children then shouldn't you know something about how they learn? Would you take your car to a mechanic who didn't understand how a car engine works? Then why do we let teachers who have little or no understanding of how children form attachments and build relationships; essentially, about how they learn teach our children?
