About Steve Decker
I have been working in biomass conversion in general and enzyme hydrolysis of plant cell walls since I was a graduate student. Although I have been involved in most aspects of biomass conversion throughout my career, most of my current emphasis is on GH7 engineering, enzyme synergy in biomass conversion, HTP screening of biomass recalcitrance, and optimization of pretreatment and enzyme activities. More recently, I have gone back to my microbiology roots and have begun on new project on waste-to-energy via engineering anaerobic digestion. Working through the DOE funding and project management system has taught me the importance of bidirectional communication- engaging and understanding the customer while developing a productive and invested research team. I currently manage multiple scientists and engineers and several DoE projects.
