Background
About Steve Dorn
As human beings, we live in stories that help us make sense of events in our lives, and that have deep impact on what possibilities are open or closed for us and our organizations. Unfortunately, without meaningful self-reflection of how we generate those stories, we can shut down trust with each other and lose the opportunity to collaborate effectively. Our stories by themselves can literally close us off from achieving our goals. The observers we are -how we interpret the world- is foundational to being human. We speak ourselves into the world, and the quality of our results is a direct reflection of the quality of our conversations. Our ability to self-reflect, remain open, and have effective interactions with our colleagues is critical not only to leadership and organizational effectiveness, but to our happiness and satisfaction in life as well. As an accomplished business leader with over 20 years of rigorous study and experience in management, generative leadership, consulting, and organizational change, I bring a unique coaching perspective that helps my clients to both recognize current stories and patterns that weaken their effectiveness, and to develop new ways of being that lead to meaningful collaboration with others. Improved communication isn't a process question, it's a grounding in skills for listening and speaking. Reducing organizational disintegrators such as gossip, hypocrisy, and inauthenticity isn't a question of rules, it's a commitment to shared values and practices that build and maintain trust. Addressing these issues are often the missing conversations that lead to debilitating breakdowns in organizations. Developing and maintaining trust is the single biggest challenge of our world today. Working to develop wise trust is the cornerstone for being taken seriously as a leader, and for creating lasting, positive relations with colleagues and customers. I offer my experience and partnership in helping teams and leaders to develop exceptional self-reflection, trust-building, and collaboration practices.
